Primeum


After the core ideas were laid out, I realized I wanted an 8-bit type game.  I love arcade games so that was a big influence as well.  It took me a while to decide on the exact format of the game.  I always wanted the monsters to enter the room after the player, but I couldn't decide if I wanted the player to leave the room.  The "eum" in "Primeum" comes from Colosseum, so I realized that I should base it off that.  The player never leaves the main arena, they just fight until they die or reach the end.

I coded the game in Python, which I learned as I went along.  I knew enough previously to start, but I had to learn the specific efficiencies of Python.  The second version of Primeum was actually just a code clean-up.  I hope to make the code even more efficient in the future.
